Hello Hands on Art docents and supporters,

This could be a very long post.  All of you who attended last Friday's fundraiser will already know 'A Night Out for the Arts' was an amazing event.  If you didn't get to attend I have included some photos below, but first there is a whole team of amazing people that need to be thanked...

Thank you to all the Hands on Art board members.

Thank you to Redondo Beach Arts Group and all the donating artists.

Thank you to St Jame's Catholic school for hosting.

Thank you to all the schools that painted platters.

Thank you to all the school chairs that worked hard to sell their quota of tickets.

Thank you to everyone who purchased a ticket for the opportunity drawings.

Thank you to everyone who bid on the silent actions.

And thank you to all the Hands on Art docents who couldn't be there on the night but give up their time and energy every month to bring art to the kids...

Fields of Lavender

For our November workshop Jake Tedesco is back with Fields of Lavender.  Inspired by the Impressionist movement docents learned about color and perspective to create a landscape painting.

Brunch was beautifully presented on Thursday by Washington and Friday by the Birney docents and so good that most of it went before I could take any photos.

We had two vendors for this workshop.  Thursday was Lisa Doyle of Origami Owl and Friday was Yavanna Baird of Artistree Jewels.  Both vendors offer items perfect for holiday gifts.

We had a sneak-peak at some wonderful donated artwork that will be available at the fundraiser on November 14.  Tickets for this event will be available until this Tuesday November 11, so if you still need tickets go and get them online HERE!

Have fun with your fields of lavender - we are looking forward to seeing them around the school campuses and showing up in our Facebook feed.

Below is a look at Friday's workshop in pictures...

Zebras on the Plains

Our new Hands on Art year got of to an amazing, black and white start with 'Zebras on the Plains' presented by local artist (and Tulita parent) Jake Tedesco!

Docents created black and white zebras using white pencil on black paper.

We were all treated to a wonderful brunch, beautifully prepared and presented by the Alta Vista team.

Vendor Yavanna Baird offered her delicate jewelry collection, Artist Tree Jewels, of which she generously donates a percentage of her sales to Hands on Art.

Tickets went on sale for our fall fundraiser.  Save the date - Friday November 14!  If you didn't get your tickets at the workshop, or would like more tickets, get them online from our website HERE!

Feel free to post your own photos on our Facebook page.  We look forward to seeing the zebras popping up around the schools and community.

See you all in November.

Appreciation Brunch, 2014

The South Bay Hands on Art appreciation brunch is a wonderful event to give thanks to the many docents who commit time and energy to the program throughout the school year.  We get to look back over the past year and look forward to the new.

Stefani Conniff inspired us all talking about the origins and success of Reaching Out.  The first person she told her idea to said ‘No’, but she went ahead and done it anyway.

We got to see all the board members together in one place at the same time.  For many, especially new docents, this is the first time seeing the faces of those that work to keep the program moving forward.

Thank you to everyone involved with putting the brunch together and for making all the docents feel very appreciated.

Alicia and Sue-Anne’s presentation summed up the Hands on Art school year beautifully.

And of course there is the big reveal – what everyone is eager to know - next year’s projects…
