Were you there? We had a gorgeous day, and some great art, food, music, and dancing. If you were there, I don't need to tell you; if you weren't, you missed something great. It might not be too late to see the art, if you hurry--but that's the nature of chalk art, it's beautiful for a short time, and then it's gone forever. So seize the day!
What a wonderful idea for art - can you give us some more specifics on how Chalk it up is run - I think it would be great for a fundraiser for our school.. Thanks Annie
ReplyDeleteSure--I haven't ever chaired the event, but the basics are this: individual schools recruit local businesses to sponsor large (5x5 squares), and most of those are chalked by confident volunteers. The rest of the squares (2x2 and 3x3) are sold (for $10 and $20) to kids, families, and anyone else who wants one, to do as they please--they can bring their own chalk or use the free chalk. There are also booths for vendors, live music and dancers, a silent auction, etc. Some of the folks who attend are just enjoying the art and shopping and eating, others are buying squares and chalking, and everyone has a good time.
